Cathryn McConaghy,
BA, Grad Dip Ed, MEd, PhD, FACE, LLB

Dr Cathryn McConaghy was called to the Bar in
Queensland in January 2016 after being admitted to practice as an Australian Lawyer in the Supreme Court of
NSW in June 2015.
Previously, Cathryn was a University Ombudsman for eleven years and a Professor and Dean of
Education with a distinguished academic career that spanned fifteen years with universities in Queensland, NSW,
Canada and the USA. She was a board member of the Australian Council of Deans of Education and was made a
Fellow of the Australian College of Educators for her outstanding contributions to Australian education. Prior
to her academic career Cathryn was a Senior Policy Advisor to the Queensland Government. Her early working life
was in adult education and community development in remote Indigenous communities. She has appeared as an expert
in social justice issues in education before Senate and Government Inquiries and was a member of the
Australia 2020 Summit.
Cathryn is a Registered Practitioner of the High Court of Australia and has appeared in
Federal and State Courts. Cathryn is a member of the International Bar Association, the Family Law
Practitioner’s Association of Queensland, the Child Protection Practitioners Association of Queensland and the
Women Lawyer’s Association of Queensland. She has undertaken pro bono matters for the Suncoast Community Legal
Service and public interest briefs for QPILCH.
